Vacation Rental Listings – The Good, The Bad and the Outright Scams
Advertising vacation rentals across the nation has changed to the property owners advantage. Five years ago, property owners depended on their local newspaper to advertise their vacation rentals. Newspapers charged anywhere from .00 to 0.00 to run a three-line cram-it-in ad for 30 days as a classified listing (00 per year). The reach was limited to the amount of papers that were printed and read on any particular day. Compare that to todays global reach and on-demand access to rental listings on the World Wide Web.
This is great news for owners wishing to advertise to the far corners of the earth. Travelers from around the world now have the ability to view listings on thousands of advertising sites with relative ease. There are risks, though: RENTER BEWARE! That vacation rental you have selected in New York, Utah or Lake Tahoe may be an empty lot upon your familys arrival at 9:30 pm after a day of traveling.
Travelers are beginning to become keen to the fact vacation rentals are a popular choice when traveling with the family, but checking to see if that perfect getaway is verified is an often overlooked step. Anyone from Hong Kong to the Idaho can post a listing for a vacation rental on the internet. Simply log on to the internet, pay your 0.00 to post your listing on a popular rental site, and field the inquiries as they arrive in your inbox. Not getting enough inquiries? Lower the price and add a few more pictures. Owners know this all too well and unfortunately so to the scammers.
98% of all the vacation rental websites do not verify their listings. It is up to the consumer to assume the risk and do their own due diligence. Scammers are good at what they do and here is why: They spend hours scouring these properties on these listing sites to learn how to create a good attractive listing, often simply cutting and pasting from other ads to create a great presentation of a non-existent property.
Just looking at some these listings, even the most experienced agents would have no clue whether or not the home, condo, chalet or cottage is legitimate until its too late. The renter has mailed the check or used an online means for payment and the money is transferred to a corner of the world we did not know existed. The email account is closed and the chase across the border will end right there.
As the vacation rental market expands by leaps and bounds, so are vacation rental listing scams. Without some due diligence and research, your perfect family vacation could end before it even starts.
How do you protect yourself from scammers? Obviously, be very careful before you send your hard-earned money to a listing on a vacation rentals website. Be patient, plan ahead it might take some time and some communication exchanges before you find the place youre looking for. Find out who the listing belongs to! If it sounds too good to be true, or if you just have a feeling that something isnt right stop right there and ask for proof of ownership and that the house youre viewing on your computer screen actually exists.

LINK: tinyurl.com Connie Francis is the prototype for the female pop singer of today. At the height of her chart popularity in the late ’50s and early ’60s, Connie Francis was unique as a female recording artist, amassing record sales equal to and surpassing those of many of her post-rock era male contemporaries. Ultimately, she branched into other styles of music — big band, country, ethnic, and more. She still challenges Madonna as the biggest-selling female recording artist of all time. Like Madonna, Concetta Rosemarie Franconero comes from an Italian American background. Francis started her music career at three, playing an accordion bought for her by her contractor father George. Her father’s dream was not for his daughter to become a star, but for Francis to become independent of men as an adult with her own accordion school of music. At age ten, she was accepted on Startime, a New York City television show that featured talented child singers and performers. The show had no one else who played an accordion. Its host, legendary TV talent scout Arthur Godfrey, had difficulty pronouncing her name and suggested something “easy and Irish,” which turned into Francis. After three weeks on Startime , the show’s producer and Francis’ would-be manager advised her to dump the accordion and concentrate …

Global Exchange Vacation Club offers Winter Family Vacation Tips
As winter approaches, many families may be thinking about taking a winter vacation. Schools close for a couple of weeks before Christmas and more families are taking winter holidays than ever before. Some families may take a skiing vacation; others may opt to visit amusement parks or the beach. Whatever your preference, winter vacations can be memorable and rewarding for the entire family.
When discussing a family vacation, it is best to list the places that you are interested in visiting. From that list, you can determine what destinations best fit in terms of budget and time. After you have narrowed your list, go online and do some research on accommodations, restaurants, family activities and weather conditions for your chosen destination. Take into consideration amenities for the kids and senior members of your family that may be traveling with you.
Once you have determined the best vacation destination for your family, decide what mode of transportation you are going to use and make your travel reservations in advance to avoid any issues with availability.
If you are flying, you can make your airline, hotel and car rental reservations using a package deal which can save you both time and money. When making your hotel reservations, make sure you request any special needs you may have if traveling with a baby. You may need to request a crib or roll away bed and you will want to do that in advance. Many hotels now have microwaves and refrigerators but you will want to make sure that is the case before arriving.
Find out how far in advance you need to be at the airport in order to go thru security and make your way to the departing gate. Make sure you research the airline security measures that are in place at the airports so that you can pack accordingly. Lotions and liquids are no longer allowed in your carryon bag except in very small amounts. It is best to get a list of what is allowed in your carryon so that it is not confiscated when going thru the security check points.
If you are driving your own vehicle, make sure you take it in to be serviced so that you do not breakdown or get stranded when traveling to your destination. Nothing is worse than to have plans and not be able to get to your destination on time. It’s also good to carry both a first aid kit and vehicle emergency kit when traveling by automobile. Remember to bring couple gallons of waterone for drinking and one for the car in case it overheats.
Depending on the location you are traveling to and weather conditions, be sure you pack warm clothing and shoes, any medical prescriptions and supplies that may be needed, snacks and activities for the kids. Books for older children are good and of course it’s rare today for kids to go anywhere without some kind of musical device and earphones. Pillows and blankets are a good idea for naps.
So, whether you are planning a vacation in the snow or finding a warm beach at which to spend your winter vacation, careful planning and consideration will ensure that this time can be enjoyable for all members of your family.
