AbeBooks Review: Posters of the Canadian Pacific posted by admin on October 31, 2011

Find copies of Posters of the Canadian Pacific by Marc H. Choko & David L. Jones on AbeBooks: bit.ly During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Canadian Pacific Railway Company was hailed as one of the wonders of modern travel. The Canadian Pacific railroad spanned North America from the Atlantic to Pacific. The company also operated luxury hotels, passenger ocean liners, cargo ships, and an airline. To promote the company and also Canada as a destination, the Canadian Pacific produced more than 2500 lithographic and silkscreen posters — 1000 of which were created in its own design studio. Posters of the Canadian Pacific showcases 300 of the best posters from this company. These posters were displayed in Canadian Pacific offices and travel agencies worldwide from the 1880s until the 1970s. They enticed millions to visit and perhaps even settle in Canada. The imagery is often about travel and leisure and the great outdoors — skiing, golf, hunting and beach life. There is a stunning array of Art Deco style work of the 1920s and ’30s. This book is a fascinating insight into commercial art in an era where travel was special rather than mundane. This railway helped to shape modern-day Canada but stepping back 50 years shows how fast things have changed.

I really hope you’ll like it, it’s not a very accessible song, so please give it a few tries, and it might grow on you! :) For all kinds of info, visit: freddegredde.com Music by FreddeGredde Lyrics by Otto Olivera Drums by David Schlein: www.youtube.com Lyrics: A thunderhead of doom enshrouds The faraway land they left behind On ships, prepared and set To roam, unknowing what they’ll find Through currents of mystery Hegira to relieve their plight Every span they travel Holding hands with lonely starlight The youthful and seasoned migrs In vessels constructed with great skill Geometric rigor to secure A promise and purpose which they all would fulfill In three fleets of seven, while Tethered to each other tight Any turn they travel Guided on by lonely starlight Home was laid to waste Dissension and decay Looking to survive They chose to sail away Scoping panoramic visual field Hoping beneficial clues will be revealed Seeking destination suitably fit To accommodate them, and, as luck would have it, A pathway to navigate Coordinates: thirteen-eight Doubtful and unsure What more can they endure? Will the choice they make Prove to be a big mistake? Time is now at hand With tension at a peak Does this course provide The harbor that they seek? Then, obstacles cleared

Culinary Travels – Jamaica posted by admin on October 30, 2011

Jamaica is one interesting place: the history, the culture, and of course, the food! We’ll capture all of that and then some as we travel around the island. My stops include the annual Portland Jerk Festival, where I will uncover the secrets of jerk goat. I’ll camp out at the four star Grand Lido Braco Resort, where I will soak up the sun and sample some great cuisine. And, you’ll be treated to signature drinks at Margaretville, and wonderful food at Blue Runnings and Toscanini Restaurants. Food, fun, and fantastic scenery as Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert takes on Jamaica!

Tourdates: www.thirdfield.com Bob Marley says: “Yeeaah! As I&I would say: This song is called Old Pirates. Some say it’s Redemption Song”. Lyrics: Old pirates, yes, they rob I; Sold I to the merchant ships, Minutes after they took I From the bottomless pit. But my hand was made strong By the hand of the Almighty. We forward in this generation Triumphantly. Won’t you help to sing Another song of freedom ‘Cause all I ever have: Redemption songs, Redemption songs. Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds. Have no fear for atomic energy, None of them can stop e the time. How long shall they kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look? Some say it’s just a part of it: We’ve got to fulfill the Book. Won’t you help to sing Another song of freedom ‘Cause all I ever have: Yej Redemption songs, Redemption songs, Sing on with me children! In everyday now, in everyway, in everyday now in everyway. Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds. Have no fear for atomic energy, A none of them can stop the time. Born of volcanic fires and lava, the Hawaiian Islands are the summits of a great volcanic mountain range which stretches nearly 2000 miles across the ocean floor. Third largest and best known, Oahu, is traditionally the first landing place for visitors and site of Honolulu, Waikiki, Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Maui, second largest in the chain, is the site of Haleakala (house of the Sun), an immense dormant volcano, and the old, once-lusty whaling port of Lahaina. On Kauai is the wettest spot on Earth and the island is noted for its lush foliage. The island of Hawaii is the easternmost island of the chain. It is the southernmost point in the United States and is nearly twice as large as the other seven islands combined, appropriately called the ” Big Island” or the ” Orchid Island.” Here is the state’s highest mountain, Mauna Kea. Here too, within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, are Mauna Loa and Kilauea, both very live volcanoes in one of the world’s most spectacularly active volcanic areas. Every island has good public swimming beaches. Scuba divers and snorkelers delight exploring Hawaii’s colorful offshore reefs. Catamarans and outriggers add an island flavor to sailing.
